The Organisation is a union of national groups and associations. It was founded 1966. IOCG cares about holding the International Conference on Crystal Growth and Epitaxy (ICCGE) every three years and about the linked International Summer School on Crystal Growth (ISSCG). IOCG also supports further conferences with the focus on crystal growth.

DGKK became a member one year after the foundation of DGKK, i.e. in 1971. All over the years DGKK presents a member for the Executive Committee. Members of the Executive Committee  and the Board are elected by the representatives of the national associations every three years.
