The German Society for Crystal Growth (DGK) was founded in 1991 by the unification of "Vereinigung für Kristallographie" and der "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kristallographie".
Crystalography deals with the atomic structure of mainly solid material with the focus on the ordering of the components and the related crystallographic, physical, and chemical properties as well as with the characterization by mean of high-resolution methods. This provides important fundamental aspects for the growth of crystals including thermodynamic phase equilibria, growth kinetics, and inlcudes also the high-resolution investigation of ideal and real structure of the crystals and their surfaces.
Hitherto, four joint anual meetings of DGK and DGKK were held (1998, 2004, 2005, 2007). In addtion, joint meetings, workshops and training courses take place especially with the following working groups of DGK: "Physikalische Kristallographie", Materialwissenschaftliche Kristallographie", "Experimentelle Methoden". The "Junge Kristallographen (JKYC)" and the "Junge DGKK (jDGKK)" are in close contact.
